Originally used by the military, MRE's were portable rations issued to the troops on the front. Now you can buy non military MRE packs. Only they have been improved on. These MRE's have a side dish in them so you are getting more value out of these MRE's. The MRE packets have a 5-8 year shelf life, one of the reasons they are such a good source for emergency food.
